New Digital Outsourcing highlights the contributions of our Director, Lina Fe Simoy, PhD candidate, who recently presented a paper at the session “Communication and Sustainable Development: Are We Making a Difference?” during the 30th Annual Conference of the Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC). Hosted by the Communication University of China, this year's conference theme, "Asia as a (Knowledge) Sharing Society and Internationalization of Higher Education," marks a significant milestone in AMIC’s 53-year history and reflects its commitment to fostering collaboration across the continent.

The conference gathered scholars, practitioners, and students from diverse sub-regions of Asia, including Central Asia, East Asia, Southeast Asia, North Asia, Oceania, the Pacific, South Asia, and West Asia. This gathering provided a unique opportunity for participants to share knowledge, engage in critical discussions, and explore innovative approaches to communication and sustainable development.

In her presentation, Lina presented a narrative review of climate transmedia storytelling in the Philippines. Her focus on this innovative communication strategy underscored the potential of storytelling to drive awareness and action on pressing climate issues facing communities in the Philippines and beyond.

Lina defined climate transmedia storytelling as an approach that utilizes multiple media platforms to convey complex climate issues. By engaging audiences through various formats — including social media, film, podcasts, and community events — this method creates a more immersive and impactful storytelling experience.

In her discussion, Lina raised the question of whether communication efforts in climate advocacy are making a tangible difference. She advocated research directions to assess the impact of transmedia storytelling on climate policies.

Lina's presentation at the AMIC conference contributed significantly to the ongoing discourse surrounding communication and sustainable development. By exploring the role of transmedia storytelling in addressing climate issues, she underscored the importance of innovative communication strategies in fostering a deeper understanding of sustainability challenges.

As New Digital Outsourcing continues to champion initiatives that promote digital capacity building and social impact, we remain committed to leveraging digital storytelling as a powerful tool for change.
